Paramedic Training
Prior to the start of the IMMEDIATE Trial all paramedics in participating EMS systems must complete the Trial’s training requirements.  The training program, developed specifically for paramedics participating in the Trial, is comprehensive, manageable and will ensure that all paramedics in each participating EMS system are trained.  The training curriculum is divided into modules.   Module content may be completed in a number of ways and this may differ between EMS systems.

Online Training
A paramedic training website (http://www.immediatetrial.net) has been developed for the trial.  This website allows secure access to the training modules that may be watched on the computer or a PDF file of each module maybe downloaded from the site for review off line.  At the end of each module there is a test that is used to assess the paramedics’ understanding of the content covered, as well as record completion of the module.

In-Class Training
Modules may also be presented in classroom settings.  A PowerPoint version of each module is available and the some of the modules are available on a DVD.

Hands-On Training
In addition, it is necessary that some module content be covered in hands-on practicum sessions.  The IMMEDIATE Trial Coordinating will assist sites in the implementation of the practicum sessions.  Furthermore, in some systems paramedics will be trained to be trainers.

Tracking of Paramedic Training
The paramedic training website (http://www.immediatetrial.net) will be used for overall tracking of paramedic training (completed on the website or in a classroom setting).
