Genetic Ancillary Study
The IMMEDIATE Trial Genetic Ancillary Study is directed by Inga Peter, PhD, of Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  The purpose of this ancillary study is to provide a greater understanding of the mechanism of GIK effect on the heart and gain insights into a genetic susceptibility to the GIK response.  Ultimately, this may lead to the development of genetic tests to identify patients who would be most likely to benefit from GIK treatment.  The Genetic Ancillary Study started enrolling subjects in June 2009.

All patients enrolled in the IMMEDIATE Trial have an opportunity to participate in the Genetic Ancillary Study.  Participation in the Genetic Study consists of providing either a saliva sample or blood sample after written informed consent is obtained.  This is typically done during the subject’s hospitalization, or at their 30-day follow-up visit.
