A patient must meet all of the following conditions to be enrolled:
- Be 30 years of age or older
- Have symptoms of a heart attack such as chest pain or pressure, difficulty breathing, sweating or nausea
- Have positive findings for a heart attack on an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)
- The paramedic believes that based on their assessment, the patient is very likely having a heart attack or unstable angina.
A patient will not be enrolled if they meet any of the following conditions:
- Unconscious or unable to speak for themselves
- Unable or unwilling to comply with study
- Undergoing dialysis for kidney disease
- Lungs are congested with fluid
- A prisoner
- Known to be pregnant
