Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria
A patient must meet all of the following conditions to be enrolled:
  • Be 30 years of age or older
  • Have symptoms of a heart attack such as chest pain or pressure, difficulty breathing, sweating or nausea
  • Have positive findings for a heart attack on an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)
  • The paramedic believes that based on their assessment, the patient is very likely having a heart attack or unstable angina.

A patient will not be enrolled if they meet any of the following conditions:

  • Unconscious or unable to speak for themselves
  • Unable or unwilling to comply with study
  • Undergoing dialysis for kidney disease
  • Lungs are congested with fluid
  • A prisoner
  • Known to be pregnant
